Interesting, I guess Petrie, et al weren't overwhelmed with Singletary's work in Vegas.

I had heard Brown was one of the more surprising players in Vegas. So this could be very good news for our very shaky PG situation.

Keep in mind that some salaries (like Derrick Rose) aren't up yet because his salary hasn't been released to the public. (That's assuming the Bulls have signed him. They may not have yet.) And having looked on ESPN's trade checker they do not list Rose's salary. Remember that this is the summer when almost all salary is being negotiated. The only 2 things the Kings have to do this summer is trade Artest and extend Francisco Garcia's contract if they choose. (Both parties might choose to wait until next off-season to negotiate.)

Two straight blog posts that are fairly critical - first of Beno and then of JT. Scott Howard-Cooper is slowly moving into "nattering nabob of negativity" territory.

I think we all know Beno has a lot to prove (particulary on his resiliency over the course of a season), and JT is going to take his lumps against NBA talent. But come on - these guys are both young and talented. And to say that JT's defense and rebounding has to improve dramatically to take minutes from Mikki Moore implies that Mikki is a decent rebounder/defender. Which he really isn't for a seven-footer.

So what does this mean? Well, if you look closely, and one area to peruse is rebounding, where the Kings have 3 of the top 11 rebounders (Hawes at 9, Williams at 8.7 and Thompson at 8.5) in the Vegas Summer League. A Kings player prominently figures in every category, except, ironically, in assists. So, if nothing else, stats say that the team performed in some way well while at Summer League during the first 4 games. (The most amazing thing to me is that Thompson is among the top 30 scorers despite having one less FG attempt than every single player amongst the top 30. His eFG% is .544 or 54.4%. This ain't bad for Summer League. His TS%, or True Shooting %, was 45.1 % which ain't bad either considering he shot 71% from the line and 54% from the field.) What's the meaning of all this? Just something to consider.

Marc Stein of course is now the first writer I've seen anywhere (as of July 17th) to mention that Cleveland might make a play, as I've suggested for about a week, with Wally Szczerbiak for the aforementioned K9/Artest rumored pairing. It's not great intelligence on Stein, or my part, for that matter to rumor Wally Z with Artest/Thomas. After all, all it takes salary wise is to match 13-17 million dollars of salary, preferably expiring contracts of course, to make the deal work. That's why I think Cleveland will take the lead. They have 2 desirable expiring contracts, and plenty of reason to move them.
